Another poem for the faaaaiiiiiiry Taaaaale collection! This is actually an older poem of mine, but I recently edited it and cut it down (Mrs. Button, are you proud of me? ARE YOU PROUD OF ME?? MOM??? ARE YOU PROUD OF ME MOM?! MAAAAAAAMMMM??!)

P.S. Sleep is for the weak.

The Princess
By Kathy Reynolds

 I have news for you.
I am not a princess. There is no
Pink gown, there is no tiara. I wear
Torn-up jeans and my cap turned
Backwards. I am not innocent. I
Am not naïve. I am not stupid. I
Believe in monsters: in horrible
Things. I have flaws. I bleed. I
Scar. I am ugly.
I am not the princess of this story.
I am the monster.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  1. Kathy, sleep.

I don't know if I like this as part of the fairy tale thing. It pulls you out of the fairy tales in way that doesn't work for me. I might love it as the start to a book or even a short story, though.

  2. Ah-kip. Thank you! That's really help-ful. What's not helpful is the fact that my computer is telling me that I misspelled the word "Thank". GET IT TOGETHER COMPUTER. YOU"RE MAKING ME THING I"M CRAZY.

    1. Did you remember to turn your wife on? I think she might be the problem.

  3. I agree with Robby that it doesn't fit in the fairytale thing.
BUT this poem is truly beautiful. I love it.
